Annual Tesla Production Statistics and Growth
Tesla’s global annual vehicle totals show rapid expansion through 2023 followed by a lower reported production total in 2024. The company reported production and deliveries separately, so neither measure should be treated as registrations or country-level retail sales.
| Calendar year | Vehicles produced | Vehicles delivered | Model 3/Y produced | Other models produced |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 1,369,611 | 1,313,851 | 1,298,434 | 71,177 Model S/X |
| 2023 | 1,845,985 | 1,808,581 | 1,775,159 | 70,826 |
| 2024 | 1,773,443 | 1,789,226 | 1,679,338 | 94,105 |

Tesla reported 2023 production as 35% higher year over year, while deliveries were 38% higher. For 2022, production was reported as 47% higher year over year and deliveries as 40% higher.
Between 2023 and 2024, total production was 72,162 vehicles lower, falling from 1,845,985 to 1,773,443. Model 3/Y production was 95,821 vehicles lower over the same comparison, declining from 1,775,159 to 1,679,338.
The annual releases identify Model 3/Y as a combined category. The 2022 non-3/Y category is labeled Model S/X, while the 2023 and 2024 releases use “other models,” so those labels should not be treated as a model-by-model split.
Quarterly Tesla Production Statistics by Model Family
Quarterly data show how output and deliveries moved during 2024. Tesla’s quarterly production and delivery figures are unaudited in the relevant releases.
| Period | Produced | Delivered | Model 3/Y produced | Other models produced |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 2024 | 433,371 | 386,810 | 412,376 | 20,995 |
| Q2 2024 | 410,831 | 443,956 | 386,576 | 24,255 |
| Q3 2024 | 469,796 | 462,890 | 443,668 | 26,128 |
| Q4 2024 | 459,445 | 495,570 | 436,718 | 22,727 |
Source: Tesla Q3 2024 Update and Tesla Fourth Quarter 2024 Production, Deliveries & Deployments.
For an earlier year-end comparison, Tesla produced 494,989 vehicles in Q4 2023, including 476,777 Model 3/Y vehicles and 18,212 other models. In Q4 2022, it produced 439,701 vehicles, including 419,088 Model 3/Y vehicles and 20,613 Model S/X vehicles.
The quarterly pattern contains both production-led and delivery-led periods:
- Q1 2024 production was 46,561 vehicles above deliveries.
- Q2 2024 production was 33,125 vehicles below deliveries.
- Q3 2024 production was 6,906 vehicles above deliveries.
- Q4 2024 production was 36,125 vehicles below deliveries.
These differences compare reported totals only. They do not isolate inventory movements, logistics timing, leasing, or other factors affecting the relationship between production and deliveries.
Tesla Production Compared With Deliveries and Inventory
Production measures vehicles made during a period, while deliveries measure vehicles handed to customers or otherwise recorded as deliveries during that period. Tesla’s own releases caution that deliveries are only one measure of financial performance and can be affected by logistics, leasing, and other factors.
Tesla reported global vehicle inventory in days of supply at several period ends:
- Inventory was 28 days of supply at the end of Q1 2024.
- Inventory was 18 days of supply at the end of Q2 2024.
- Inventory was 19 days of supply at the end of Q3 2024.
- Inventory was 15 days of supply at the end of Q4 2023.

Tesla defines days of supply using ending new-vehicle inventory, relevant-quarter deliveries, and 75 trading days. It is therefore a company-defined inventory metric, not a universal industry measure.
Operating-lease accounting is another separate delivery classification. Tesla reported that deliveries subject to operating-lease accounting represented 5% of Q4 2024 deliveries, compared with 2% of Q4 2023 deliveries; this is not a production share.
Tesla Model 3 and Model Y Production Trends
Model 3/Y vehicles dominated Tesla’s reported global output throughout the period. Tesla’s combined category does not provide a separate production split between the Model 3 and Model Y.
| Period | Model 3/Y produced | Model 3/Y delivered |
|---|---|---|
| Calendar 2022 | 1,298,434 | 1,247,146 |
| Calendar 2023 | 1,775,159 | 1,739,707 |
| Calendar 2024 | 1,679,338 | 1,704,093 |
| Q4 2022 | 419,088 | 388,131 |
| Q4 2023 | 476,777 | 461,538 |
| Q4 2024 | 436,718 | 471,930 |
Source: Tesla Fourth Quarter 2024 Production, Deliveries & Deployments and Tesla Vehicle Production & Deliveries and Date for Financial Results & Webcast for Fourth Quarter 2022.
Within 2024, Model 3/Y production was 412,376 in Q1, 386,576 in Q2, and 443,668 in Q3, before reaching 436,718 in Q4. Other-model production was 20,995, 24,255, 26,128, and 22,727 in those same quarters.
Other-model production increased from 70,826 vehicles in 2023 to 94,105 in 2024. Because “other models” is an aggregate category, the total does not identify the contribution of any individual vehicle.
Tesla Factory Production Footprint and Manufacturing Status
Tesla’s 2024 Form 10-K describes production status by site and model, but these statuses are not installed-capacity figures and do not equal realized output.
| Location | Program listed in the 2024 Form 10-K | Status |
|---|---|---|
| California | Model S/X | Active production |
| California | Model 3/Y | Active production |
| Shanghai | Model 3/Y | Active production |
| Berlin | Model Y | Active production |
| Texas | Model Y | Active production |
| Texas | Cybertruck | Active production |
| Nevada | Tesla Semi | Pilot production |
| Texas/TBD | Cybercab and Roadster | In development |

The status distinction matters when interpreting factory discussions. Active production indicates a listed operating program, pilot production does not indicate mass-production volume, and development status is not production output.
Tesla Production Mix, Energy Deployment, and Efficiency Context
Tesla reports energy-storage deployments separately from vehicle production. In calendar year 2024, the company deployed 31.4 GWh of energy-storage products globally.
Quarterly energy-storage deployments were 4.1 GWh in Q1 2024, 9.4 GWh in Q2 2024, and 6.9 GWh in Q3 2024. These are deployment measures, not vehicle-manufacturing totals.
Tesla’s Model 3/Y family represented about 94.7% of 2024 vehicle production, based on 1,679,338 Model 3/Y vehicles out of 1,773,443 total vehicles. This is a derived, rounded share of Tesla’s global calendar-year production.
The EPA provides a different lens using U.S. model-year production delivered for sale. In model year 2023, Tesla had the highest percentage of car SUVs among manufacturers in the EPA production breakdown, at 55%, and its sedan/wagon production decreased by more than 10 percentage points from model year 2022 to 2023.
Source: 2024 EPA Automotive Trends Report: Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Fuel Economy, and Technology since 1975.
For model year 2024, the EPA estimated Tesla’s all-electric fleet at 117.1 mpg gasoline equivalent in real-world fuel economy, the highest among large manufacturers in that comparison. This is an efficiency estimate, not a production count, and BEVs are measured in miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent.
The EPA also reported that BEVs represented 7% of all new vehicles in model year 2024, down from 10% in model year 2023. Among car SUVs in model year 2024, 30% were BEVs and 3% were PHEVs; these are industry-wide U.S. production statistics, not Tesla-only figures.
