Tesla Vehicle Production and Delivery Statistics

Tesla’s calendar-year 2024 vehicle totals are company-reported worldwide operating measures. Deliveries are not equivalent to revenue, and Tesla groups Model 3 with Model Y in the release.

Category Produced Delivered Period and scope
Total Tesla vehicles 1,773,443 1,789,226 Calendar year 2024, worldwide
Model 3/Y 1,679,338 1,704,093 Calendar year 2024, worldwide
Other models 94,105 85,133 Calendar year 2024, worldwide

Source: Tesla Fourth Quarter 2024 Production, Deliveries & Deployments. The other-model category is a residual company category, so individual models are not separated.

Quarter four was a substantial part of the annual operating picture. Tesla produced 459,445 vehicles and delivered 495,570 worldwide in Q4 2024, including 436,718 Model 3/Y produced and 471,930 Model 3/Y delivered.

  • Other-model production was 22,727 vehicles in Q4 2024 worldwide, while other-model deliveries were 23,640.
  • The reported annual delivery total exceeded production by 15,783 vehicles, an arithmetic difference rather than a reported inventory measure.
  • In Q4 2024, deliveries exceeded production by 36,125 vehicles, also an arithmetic difference rather than a reported inventory measure.
  • Vehicles subject to operating-lease accounting represented 5% of Q4 Model 3/Y deliveries and 6% of other-model deliveries worldwide.

These comparisons describe reported flow measures for production and deliveries. They should not be read as a direct measure of sales revenue, inventory, or profitability.

The balance sheet and cash-flow figures add operating scale to the income statement. Tesla ended December 31, 2024 with $36.56 billion in cash, cash equivalents and investments, generated $14.92 billion of operating cash flow during fiscal 2024, and recorded $11.34 billion in capital expenditures.

  • Tesla’s research and development expense was $4.54 billion in fiscal 2024.
  • Selling, general and administrative expense was $5.15 billion in fiscal 2024.
  • Diluted earnings per share were $2.04 for Tesla common stock in fiscal 2024.

These are financial reporting measures for the consolidated company or named segment. The vehicle and energy deployment figures elsewhere in this article are operating measures and should not be treated as complete measures of financial performance.

Tesla Manufacturing, Workforce and Operating Scale

Tesla’s worldwide workforce and infrastructure show the organizational scale supporting its vehicle and energy businesses. At December 31, 2024, the company employed approximately 125,665 people worldwide, including full-time and part-time employees as described in the filing.

The year-end workforce figure sits alongside the company’s research and administrative spending. Tesla reported $4.54 billion in research and development expense and $5.15 billion in selling, general and administrative expense during fiscal 2024.

Tesla’s charging infrastructure also expanded during the year:

  • Tesla added more than 3,000 Supercharger stalls in Q4 2024 worldwide.
  • Tesla launched Superchargers in three new countries during calendar year 2024; the cited company passage does not name them.
  • The worldwide Supercharger network grew 19% year over year in 2024.
  • Tesla had more than 65,000 Superchargers worldwide at the end of calendar year 2024.

The operating-scale figures should be read with their measurement dates. Employee count is a December 31 snapshot, while production, deliveries and network growth cover periods of different lengths.

Tesla Energy Storage and Supercharger Statistics

Tesla reported 31.4 GWh of energy storage products deployed worldwide in calendar year 2024, including 11.0 GWh in Q4 2024. These are company-reported deployments, not manufacturing-capacity figures.

Supercharger energy delivery provides a separate utilization measure. Tesla reported 1.4 TWh delivered through the worldwide Supercharger network in Q4 2024 and more than 5.2 TWh in calendar year 2024.

Supercharger measure Reported amount Period and scope
Energy delivered 1.4 TWh Q4 2024, worldwide
Energy delivered More than 5.2 TWh Calendar year 2024, worldwide
Estimated direct CO2 emissions offset More than 5.5 billion kg Calendar year 2024, worldwide
Estimated gasoline equivalent offset 2.4 billion liters Calendar year 2024, worldwide

Source: Tesla Q4 2024 Update. Tesla’s CO2 and gasoline figures are estimates, and direct emissions offset is not the same as lifecycle emissions avoided.

Tesla also described the reported Q4 2024 V4 cabinet specifications. It supports vehicle architectures from 400V to 1,000V, charging up to 500 kW for passenger vehicles and up to 1.2 MW for Tesla Semi; Tesla said its power density was three times that of the prior design.

Those are stated hardware capabilities rather than fleet-average charging rates. Actual charging rates vary by vehicle and conditions, and the cited passage does not specify the baseline design used for the power-density comparison.

EPA data place Tesla’s efficiency measure in a U.S. model-year context rather than a global sales context. In model year 2024, Tesla’s all-electric manufacturer fleet had a 117.1 mpg fuel-economy value, the highest among large manufacturers in the EPA report; this is a fleet metric, not an individual vehicle label value.

For comparison, EPA estimated average new-vehicle real-world fuel economy at 27.2 mpg in model year 2024. The EPA comparison says that average was 41% higher than in model year 2004, while a counterfactual 2024 mix without BEVs and PHEVs would have been 1.7 mpg lower.

U.S. model-year measure Figure Definition
Tesla all-electric manufacturer fleet 117.1 mpg equivalent Model year 2024 EPA fleet metric
Average new-vehicle real-world fuel economy 27.2 mpg Model year 2024 U.S. light-duty vehicles
BEV share of all new vehicles 7% Model year 2024 production
BEV share of all new vehicles 10% Model year 2023 production

Source: Highlights of the Automotive Trends Report. These EPA figures describe U.S. new light-duty vehicle model-year production and use EPA/NHTSA classifications; they are not Tesla global sales statistics.

The category detail shows how powertrain mix varied across vehicle definitions:

  • In model year 2024, cars represented 34% and trucks 66% of new vehicles under NHTSA regulatory definitions.
  • BEVs represented 30% of car-SUV production and PHEVs 3% in model year 2024.
  • EPA’s decomposition estimated that BEVs increased model-year 2024 car-SUV fuel economy by 9.0 mpg.
  • BEVs represented 7% and PHEVs 1% of sedan and wagon production in model year 2024.
  • BEVs represented 4% and PHEVs 4% of truck-SUV production in model year 2024.

The broader EPA series reported a combined BEV, PHEV and fuel-cell share of 11.5% in model year 2023, up from 6.7% in model year 2022. EPA projected that combined share at 14.8% for model year 2024; that figure is a forecast in the report, not final observed production.

Tesla Recall and Vehicle-Safety Statistics

NHTSA’s 2024 annual recall-completion table lists Tesla with 12 recalls and 2,183,559 recalled vehicles. The table covers recalls with an eighth quarterly report submitted in 2024 and excludes tires, child seats and equipment.

The recall populations and completion snapshots are different measures from Tesla’s annual deliveries. Completion rates are eighth-quarter snapshots, later repairs can raise them, and NHTSA cautions that rates should not be compared across recalls or manufacturers because remedy availability and other factors differ.

Tesla recall Vehicles covered Completion rate in NHTSA snapshot
22V045 817,143 97.4%
22V235 594,894 99.6%
21V002 356,309 66.0%

21V00B 130,441 Not stated in cited excerpt
22V263 48,184 Not stated in cited excerpt
22V818 40,168 Not stated in cited excerpt
22V050 26,681 Not stated in cited excerpt

Source: Recall Completion Rate Report 2024. Recall populations are not defect rates, and the table’s scope is limited to the annual report snapshot.

The three reported completion rates illustrate why the measure needs its timing and scope attached: recall 22V045 covered 817,143 vehicles at 97.4%, recall 22V235 covered 594,894 at 99.6%, and recall 21V002 covered 356,309 at 66.0% in the eighth-quarter snapshot.

These recall figures describe campaign populations and remedy completion, not the frequency or severity of defects. They also should not be combined with Tesla’s worldwide production and delivery totals as though the populations used the same geography, period or definition.
