Polestar’s retail-sales measure represents end-customer handovers across internal, fleet, retail, rental and leaseholder channels. It is therefore not identical to revenue recognized in the same period.

The 2024 full-year result declined even though the fourth quarter increased year over year. Polestar reported that full-year order intake rose 37.9% from 2023, while Q4 order intake increased 37.2% from Q4 2023; orders can be canceled, delayed or delivered later.

The company’s Q1 and nine-month 2025 retail figures are explicitly preliminary or estimated. They should not be treated as audited full-year totals, and the 9M period is not a complete calendar year.

Polestar Quarterly Statistics and Model Mix

Quarterly figures show stronger reported momentum in 2025, although quarter-to-quarter comparisons can reflect seasonality and handover timing.

  • Q3 2025 estimated global retail sales were 14,192 cars, up 13.1% from 12,548 cars in Q3 2024.
  • Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 accounted for 56% of Q4 2024 global order intake, a measure of orders rather than delivered-vehicle mix.
  • Q1 2025 included 183 external vehicles with repurchase obligations, compared with 527 in Q1 2024; this is a disclosed subcategory, not total retail sales.

Polestar Markets, Retail Footprint and Manufacturing Statistics

As of December 31, 2024, Polestar operated in 27 markets across Europe, the Middle East, North America, China and Asia Pacific. The company reported 193 Polestar Spaces globally at that date.

European customers had access to 90 Polestar Spaces and approximately 650,000 Plugsurfing charging points. The charging-point figure describes network access, not chargers owned by Polestar.

Polestar 1 had planned limited-build capacity of up to 500 units per year in Chengdu, China, during its 2019–2021 production run. Production ceased in 2021, so this is a historical planned-capacity figure rather than a current manufacturing rate.

Polestar Sustainability Statistics and Vehicle Carbon Measurements

Polestar reported a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions per car sold in its 2024 sustainability reporting. The announcement does not provide the full denominator and boundary, so this company sustainability metric should not be presented as a lifetime-emissions result.

The company’s vehicle lifecycle figures use stated boundaries, especially cradle to gate. They cover production-related impacts rather than all emissions from driving, maintenance and end-of-life use.

Vehicle or measure Reported carbon figure Boundary or context
Polestar 2 at launch 26.1 tCO2e per vehicle Cradle to gate
Polestar 3 at launch 24.7 tCO2e per vehicle Cradle to gate
Polestar 2 reduction since launch 12%, or 3 tCO2e Since 2020 launch through FY2024 filing
Polestar 3 renewable-electricity measures 8.5 tCO2e eliminated per car Company lifecycle estimate

Source: Polestar FY24 20-F and Polestar reports Q1 2025 revenue growth of 84% and significant gross margin improvement to positive.

For Polestar 3, material production and refining contributed 68% of the cradle-to-gate footprint. Aluminum represented 24%, iron and steel 17%, and battery-module production 24% of the footprint in the launch assessment.

The company reported that 81% of the total aluminum mass, battery-cell-module production, anode and cathode material production used 100% renewable electricity under its defined scope. It estimated that these measures eliminated 8.5 tCO2e per Polestar 3 car.

For the 2020 Polestar 2 long-range dual-motor launch edition, a scenario in the FY2024 filing estimated a reduction from about 26 tonnes to 16 tonnes of CO2e under all identified partnership solutions. This is a scenario estimate, not an observed fleet average or achieved result.

Aluminum and steel together represented around 45% of Polestar 2 lifecycle-assessment greenhouse-gas emissions under the cited assessment boundary. Product specifications and footprint values can vary by market, variant and model year.
